Itinerary Summary

The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a magnificent green swathe of dense rainforest, so ancient it survived the last ice age. Bwindi National Park covers 330 sq km of this rainforest and spans altitudes of 1,100 metres to 2,400 metres - a dramatic landscape of steep hills, narrow gorges and streams tumbling down waterfalls

A proclaimed World Heritage site, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth. Its unique, precious flora sustains roughly half of the world's population of mountain gorillas - believed to number just 600. There's also a substantial chimpanzee population and Bwindi is the only forest in Africa in which these two apes live together

Day 1: Entebbe

On arrival at Entebbe Airport you will be transferred to the Lake Victoria Hotel, where you will spend the night on a bed & breakfast basis. Depending on the time of your arrival, spend the afternoon on the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary excursion, although this could also be done at the end of the tour. The island is home to orphaned and rescued chimps and there are excellent photographic opportunities here

Days 3/4: Bwindi National Park/Volcanoes National Park

Drive to Bwindi National Park or the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda - depending on where we are able to obtain gorilla permits. The following morning you are joined by the experienced trackers and guides for your gorilla track into the forest to visit one of the habituated groups.

This excursion can sometimes be quite strenuous depending how far the gorillas are located from camp. On both nights you will stay on a full board basis at either our Gorilla Forest Camp or the Buhoma Guest Lodge, both close to Bwindi Park HQ. If gorilla tracking takes place in Rwanda, you will stay in accommodation close to the town of Rhungeri.
